Learning Objectives
The objective of the course is to train divers in the safer use of Rebreathers for dives using normoxic helium based gas mixtures.
The knowledge and skills taught in this program are designed to qualify divers to perform Normoxic
Trimix Dives up to 200 fsw (60 msw) or Normoxic Trimix Plus dives up to 233 fsw (70 msw).
The course objective included the following:
- Identify the steps in planning an Advanced EANx/Advance Recreational Trimix CCR dive
- Identify the two greatest hazards when planning CCR dives
- Understand what is meant by Runtime variation planning
- Why personal planning is the most important part of a dive plan
- What is group planning and the responsibilities of each diver in the group
- A basic understanding of the Physiology of Oxygen Transport at the surface
- What is Acute Hypoxia and the Signs and Symptoms of Hypoxia
- What is oxygen toxicity and the signs and symptoms of oxygen toxicity
- A basic understanding of Carbon Dioxide physiology
- Describe what is Hyperventilation or Hypocapnia
- What is and the signs and symptoms of Hypercapnia
- Steps you can take to avoid CO2 problems
- To describe the difference between adsorption and absorption
- What is the definition of surface equivalent value
- What is soda lime and how it scrubs CO2 from the breathing loop
- What is the difference between an axial and a radial canister
- Why its important to properly pack the scrubber canister
- Understand the demands and technical challenges to CO2 detection systems in rebreathers
- Be able to name at least 3 components that equipment configuration essentials
- Why its important to select the proper equipment for a given dive
- Be able to list 3 common causes of diving accidents and ways to prevent them.
